Critic Ratings & Tasting Notes

Jeb Dunnuck (98/100)

“One of the more powerful wines of the vintage, the 2022 Château Feytit Clinet delivers an almost Petrus-like structure and density, along with a stunning nose of ripe red, blue, and black fruits interwoven with leafy herbs, chocolate, tobacco, and truffles. With full-bodied richness, a deep, layered mid-palate, nicely integrated smoky oak, and a blockbuster finish, this brilliant wine should be snapped up by savvy readers. Ideally give it 4–6 years in the cellar, but you’ll be forgiven for opening bottles now. It should cruise for two decades, if not longer. The 2022 is 88% Merlot and 12% Cabernet Franc, from the Clinet, Latour, and Feytit lieux-dits, aged in 70% new barrels. It reached 14.5% alcohol with a solid pH of 3.75.”

Yves Beck (97/100)

“Feytit-Clinet immediately reveals depth and complexity. It shines with its many details and its ability to showcase its terroir, the very place it comes from. Complex, it offers notes of peony, elderberry, and blueberry, along with hints of peppermint and a touch of graphite. On the palate, the wine is dense and precise, with powerful yet measured tannins that stand out for their serenity and their ability to channel their vigor with great delicacy. Savory and mouthwatering, the wine shows a saline touch on the finish, which further underscores its freshness, while the fruit expression lingers. I had tasted it en primeur, but not at this level. Mea culpa!”

Jeff Leve – The Wine Cellar Insider (96/100)

“Deep, rich, purple in hue, the wine is packed with black plums, flowers, cloves, cinnamon, cherries, apple blossoms, smoke, and licorice in the aromatic profile. On the palate, the wine shows off its sensuous, silky wealth of plums, cherries, and chocolate form the initial sip. Concentrated, rich, and creamy, with vibrancy, length and suppleness, this is a gorgeous expression of Feytit-Clinet. The wine blends 90% Merlot with 10% Cabernet Franc. 14.9% ABV, 3.75 pH. The harvest took place September 5 – September 27. The yields were 33 hectoliters per hectare. This is the finest vintage of Feytit Clinet produced yet. Drink from 2026-2050.”

Decanter (95/100)

“Intense aromatics, dark bramble fruit, purple flowers and cool cola and cedar elements. Smooth and supple, more joyful than the nose suggests with bouncy acidity and finely muscular tannins that support the concentrated fruit. Feels clean and polished with lots of energy and style. Ends chalky with liquorice, bitter orange and an iron tang. Finessed and powerful, this should grow into a beauty. One to seek out.”

Château Feytit-Clinet: Estate & Vineyard

The estate

Château Feytit-Clinet is a small, highly regarded estate in Pomerol, on Bordeaux’s Right Bank, where it has built a strong reputation for producing refined, characterful wines from a boutique vineyard. The property’s documented history goes back to the 19th century, and the estate is today owned by the Chasseuil family. For several decades, from 1966 to 1999, the vineyard and wines were managed by Jean-Pierre Moueix; from the 2000 vintage onward, Jérémy Chasseuil resumed control and led a major qualitative rise at the château. Created in 1825 and located on the western plateau of Pomerol, Feytit-Clinet is now seen as one of the appellation’s most compelling small estates, combining classic Pomerol depth with growing precision and polish.

The vineyard

The vineyard of Château Feytit-Clinet is compact—around 6.5 hectares—which allows for very attentive, plot-by-plot work in both the vineyard and cellar. It is planted predominantly to Merlot (90%) with Cabernet Franc (10%), a classic Pomerol mix that gives the wines both plush texture and aromatic lift. The terroir is made up of gravel, clay and sand, with parts of the estate on the western side of the Pomerol plateau. Vines average roughly 33 to 35 years of age, while some parcels include much older vines, over 70 years old, adding extra concentration and complexity to the final wine.
