This assorted case, produced in limited quantities, allows you to rediscover one of Bordeaux’s finest vintages in recent years. Under the sliding lid marked with the family company logo, six bottles of first and second wines from the Left and Right Banks are progressively revealed. Opening the drawer reveals three magnums of the first wines from the three estates. This stunning case is also ideal as an elegant interior decoration.
The 2016 Vintage
After a cool, rainy winter and spring, flowering on both banks was almost miraculously uniform. The summer drought ended with a rainy spell in mid-September, which was very beneficial for perfecting the ripening process. In October, no rain disrupted our harvest. The cool nights, combined with the warm days, enabled us to produce wines that were both structured as well as fresh and fruity. Is it a paradox or the miracle of nature? The outstanding 2016 vintage reaffirms, once again, the power of great terroirs
Ratings & Tasting Notes
Chateau Haut-Brion 2016
Robert Parker – Wine Advocate – (100/100)
“The 2016 Haut-Brion is blended of 56% Merlot, 37.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6.5% Cabernet Franc. Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the nose is at once profound and arresting, offering drop-dead gorgeous Morello cherries, lilacs and red rose scents with a core of Black Forest cake, warm blackcurrants and blueberry preserves plus wafts of sandalwood and underbrush. Medium-bodied, the elegantly crafted palate is completely packed with intense floral, mineral and cassis-laced flavors with a firm frame of very finely pixelated tannins and seamless freshness, finishing very long and achingly stunning.”
Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion 2016
Robert Parker – Wine Advocate – (98/100)
“The 2016 La Mission Haut-Brion is a blend of 57.5% Merlot and 42.5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep garnet-purple in color, it is just a little muted to begin, soon unfurling to reveal slowly growing scents of crushed blackcurrants, black cherries, dark chocolate and candied violets with nuances of crushed rocks, tobacco leaf, forest floor and fragrant earth plus a hint of bergamot. Medium-bodied and exquisitely elegant, the palate offers perfectly ripe, fine-grained tannins and tons of freshness with layer upon layer of perfumed fruit and a very long, ferrous-laced finish.”
Chateau Quintus 2016
James Suckling (97/100)
“Ripe damson-plum fruit and generous richness make this youthful, high-end St.-Emilion surprisingly easy to drink right now. Underneath the sensual exterior is a serious structure and that becomes ever more obvious as it rolls over the palate. Very long finish that has a certain sweetness, but remains so elegant.”
Le Clarence de Haut-Brion 2016
Robert Parker – Wine Advocate – (93/100)
“Blended of 51.3% Merlot, 13.1% Cabernet Franc, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2.6% Petit Verdot, the medium to deep garnet-purple colored 2016 Le Clarence de Haut-Brion features beautiful rose hip tea, fallen leaves and black olives scents over a core of redcurrant jelly, cassis and pencil shavings plus touches of menthol and pencil lead. Medium-bodied, the palate is finely crafted with delicate red and black fruits laced with loads of earthy accents, framed by grainy tannins and finishing on a lingering mineral note.”
La Chapelle de La Mission Haut-Brion 2016
Robert Parker – Wine Advocate – (94/100)
“he 2016 La Chapelle de la Mission Haut-Brion is blended of 42% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36.5% Merlot and 21.5% Cabernet Franc. Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, it absolutely sings of red roses, black tea and tilled black soil with a core of crushed blackberries, Morello cherries and cassis plus a hint of cinnamon stick. Medium-bodied, the palate delivers a great intensity of ripe black berries and floral layers, framed by soft, silken tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long and mineral laced.”
Le Dragon de Quintus 2016
James Suckling (93/100)
“A delicious and fresh St.-Emilion with ripe blackberries and a subtle, mineral note that shows clearly on the long, crisp and juicy finish. Second wine of Château Quintus.”
